In Nashik city, the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) gathered more than 200,000 Ganapati idols donated by devotees during Ganapati immersion on Anant Chaturdashi. Alongside the idols, NMC also managed to collect 177 metric tonnes of puja waste to prevent river pollution. To promote eco-friendly practices, NMC encouraged devotees to donate idols to them instead of immersing them in the Godavari river. The city has designated 80 locations for idol immersion, including natural spots along the riverbanks and artificial ponds at various locations. NMC officials noted an increase in the number of idols collected this year compared to last year, reaching a total of 5,000 more idols. Staff and volunteers were stationed at all immersion spots to collect idols and puja waste, with a total increase of 18% in puja waste collected this year. The Panchavati division saw the highest number of idol collections, followed by the Nashik Road division, with the remaining idols sourced from Nashik East, Nashik West, Satpur, and Cidco divisions of NMC.
